Will there be a Scream VII?
The Scream series has been around since 1998, and since then, it has risen to the top of the slasher pyramid, delivering a series of well-written and enjoyable films. If you’ve enjoyed the latest in the franchise, you may be wondering if there will be a sequel. Here’s what we know at the time of writing:
What is Scream VI about?
The story takes place after last year’s box office surprise, as Samantha struggles to adjust to her new reality. While it’s recommended to watch 2022’s Scream before jumping into this, Scream VI does a pretty solid job of portraying what happens when Sam attends therapy. By the time we left him, Sam was Public Enemy No. 1, and the internet was claiming that Richie was innocent and Sam was framing him as the Ghostbuster.
After moving to New York and starting a new life for themselves, Sam struggles to maintain his relationship with Tara. She wants to do her own thing, but sees Sam as an annoying, intrusive figure who overshadows her life.
As a new series of murders begin targeting those closest to Sam and Tara, our heroes are conflicted between saving themselves from harm and doing everything they can to unmask the next Ghostface killer.
Will there be a Scream VII?
A sequel to Scream VI has not been confirmed at the time of writing. It’s no surprise considering the film has just been released internationally. However, given that the films were made on a shoestring budget and all made tidy profits at the box office, it’s no surprise that Paramount decided to greenlight another sequel to this film.
If you’ve seen Scream VI, you’ll know that the ending is set for a darker tale, especially with Samantha’s deteriorating mental state. However, it could be a hoax as we see him drop the mask at the end.
What could Scream VII be about?
There are several possibilities as to which way Scream VII could go, and the creators seem to have hinted at it during the runtime. Given his joy in killing and knife-happy habit at the end of the film, we could see this teased in another film.
The discussion surrounding the old characters is another big question mark here, and it’s possible that Sydney and Gail are both reprising their roles in the upcoming movie to take out the new Ghostface killer(s) alongside Sam and Tara.
There are a lot of ways this could go, but it looks like the Core 4 will probably still be intact and appear in the next movie.
When can Scream VII be released?
Since we don’t have any concrete information to go on, it’s fair to assume the film won’t be ready until 2024 at the earliest. Given that no script has been written, no casting or production design has been completed, and no sequel has been announced by Paramount, then we’ll have to wait and see.
That’s all we know for now, but if we hear news about a sequel, we’ll update this page with relevant information.
