Scream VI Ending Explained, How do Sam and Tara survive? How does Scream VI end?

Scream VI plot summary

The story takes place after last year’s box office surprise, as Samantha struggles to adjust to her new reality. While it’s recommended to watch 2022’s Scream before jumping into this, Scream VI does a pretty solid job of portraying what happens when Sam attends therapy. By the time we left him, Sam was public enemy.

After moving to New York and starting a new life for themselves, Sam struggles to maintain his relationship with Tara. Tara wants to do her own thing and sees Sam as an annoying, intrusive figure who overshadows her life.

When a new series of murders takes place targeting those closest to Sam and Tara, our heroes are conflicted between keeping themselves out of harm’s way and doing.

  What happens on the subway?

Sam decides that the group should stay together and go to Ghostface’s temple. For that, they have to take the subway. Unfortunately, in the chaos and busyness on the platform, Sam breaks up with Mindy. Mindy boards the next train, but the creepy Ethan, one of the prime suspects, is on board with her and watching from afar.

A suspected murderer sits on Sam’s train and slowly turns towards Sam and eventually walks towards him. However, Sam’s love interest Danny stands in his way and protects him… just as the boy steps off the train.

As for Mindy, she finds herself face-to-face with the Ghostface killer, who jumps by surprise, constantly stabbing her as she gags. Unfortunately, no one in the carriage hears her strangled cries and she is left to die.

When the killer leaves, Ethan runs and helps Mindy, eventually getting the authorities to take her to the hospital and also freeing himself from suspicion, especially when Mindy moans that she’s “done it wrong again.”

  Do Mindy and Gail survive?

Before revealing who the killers are, Gail’s earlier encounter with the killer in her apartment provides a tense sequence that ends with Gail being stabbed in the stomach. This seemingly fatal wound sees him faint and pass out. However, it is soon revealed in the final act that Gail and Mindy have survived their ordeal and will live to fight another day.

 What happens in the temple?

Little hints have been given along the way as to who the killer(s) will be, but the way he goes down will turn many off. In an abandoned theater turned killer’s lair, the group uncovers many clues. Thanks to Gale’s off-screen investigative efforts, Core 4 realizes that this is a shrine used by the new Ghostface, where the weapons and clothing of every previous killer are exposed as collectibles.

There is also a lot of police evidence here, which means the killer is either connected to the police or very rich, because they had to bribe the officers to hand over this tool.

Earlier in the film, we learned that the building belonged to Jason and Greg, the two Ghostface copycats who died at the hands of the new killer during that excellent opening segment. However, that’s not the whole story, but we’ll get back to that shortly!

Following this, Sam and Tara are shocked by a call from Detective Bailey. He reveals that Kirby was fired from the FBI after a mental breakdown caused by the recent Woodsboro murders. At this point, it appears that he is the killer. The girls believe Bailey and refuse to listen and run away as Kirby staggers around the stage covered in blood and begs the girls for help.

They are joined by Chad and… the Ghostface killers. Sure enough, there are two assassins who show up, and a final battle ensues as they repeatedly stab Chad, forcing Tara to helplessly follow.

  Who are the Ghostface killers?

Tara and Samantha are trapped on both sides as Detective Bailey shows up and reveals his true intentions. It turns out that he is the real mastermind behind all this and he is trying to get revenge for Richie’s death in the previous movie. Bailey is actually Richie’s father, and the loss of his son caused him to bring the whole family on board to get revenge on Sam.

When Kirby gets involved, Bailey shoots him and tells Sam that the whole family wants revenge on the people who killed Richie. They actually started online rumors against Sam that plagued him throughout his entire act.

The temple they were in was originally Richie’s doing, as he managed to get his hands on the evidence courtesy of his father. Bailey changed ownership to Greg and Jason to avoid detection while researching copies of Ghostface. With a gun to his head, Bailey demands that Sam wear Billy’s Ghostface mask to show the world that he is a killer.

How do Sam and Tara survive?

Seizing the moment, Sam and Tara escape from Bailey and find a way out of the temple, defeating the threat of Ethan and Quinn.

  How does Scream VI end?

With the killers revealed and everything coming to an end, Sam reunites with Danny, who is grateful to see him. Danny is accompanied by a number of police officers and he leads them to the tomb where they begin to piece together what happened. As for Sam, he takes off in his Ghostface mask, thinking about his legacy and what his family has done. As the film ends, he seems to have come to terms with his past, but he sheds the mask that still carries a heavy burden in his heart.
